Whuddehvah

There's a reason why people hate Bill Gates.

I have spent the past 2 days pulling out my hair because I cannot send emails.
I can receive emails; I just can't send them.

On Sunday, Windows Update performed a "critical SP1 update" to my PC -- my BRAND NEW PC.
No problem.
On Monday morning, I could not send emails.

I would hit send and Windows Mail (Vista) would ACT like it was sending the messages, but after about 2 minutes, I would get the following message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.east.cox.net', Server: 'smtp.east.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Yes, I have called my ISP (Cox Communications).
Yes, I have contacted Windows Live support.
Yes, I have posted my problem on the Windows Live Forum.
Yes, I have called Geek Squad and explained the problem to them, in detail.

General consensus?
It's nobody's fault and it's nobody's problem.

Isn't that helpful?

Does anyone have the number for Steve Jobs???
I think I'm ready to capitulate.

Summer jump in the apple iMac pool the water is fine :-) As you know we are a 3 iMac family. I would have an iPhone but love Tmobile so bought a blackberry. I needed an inexpensive laptop for blackberry software as it isn't mac friendly and Mike wanted something to take to school from time to time. So I bought a very cheap PC laptop for this purpose a few months ago. One piece of advice my sister gave me was never let the computer download those auto windows security updates. They messed her up everytime so she stopped doing that and had fewer problems with her pc. Sharon :-)

I can't stand having computer problems, it makes me cranky to say the least!!

My husband just happens to be an IT computer-fix-it guy, he works on and fixes computers for a living!! He has more certifications than I can name. Anyway, my point in saying all that is ... if you would like him to - I'm sure he wouldn't mind taking a look at your computer for you to see if there is anything he can do to help out or maybe even fix it!!

Just let me know ...

LOL, Sharon!
Yes, I will definitely be joining the ranks of "Mac owners" as soon as I possibly can. =)

And thank you, Lesley, for your kind and generous offer... but I'm happy to report that my tenacity (read: stubborness) has paid off.
I was able to fix the problem myself -- NO THANKS TO COX OR GEEK SQUAD, Thank you very much -- this afternoon.
Should I encounter any more issues, however, it's good to know I can call on you!

Summer,
Glad it all worked out. I am behind on posting to anything but, I meant to also say I can't believe how grown up Nadia is now!! Wow!!
So are you holding out for the new iPhone Apple is releasing. I noticed that it is cheaper but, it will run on a more expensive network so the monthly fee will be more than with the edge network. They are doing the same thing with the next blackberry. The one I have is on the edge but, the new bb will be on the 3G like the new iPhone. I'm actually pretty happy with the edge and rarely even use the wifi.

We switched to Mac late last year. It started with the iPhone. Now we have two iPhones, a Mac Book, and an iMac. We're all Mac'd out.

Summer, Christy says to tell you she will never go back to a PC

Yeah, my VISTA did that, too. Then I find out that it REALLY was sending my email, only it left it in the outbox and I got the error. So,then it sent it, again and left it in the outbox and I got the error, then it sent it...... It does it every so often. I just delete them from the outbox and pray they got sent. I figured it out when people started emailing me back asking why I was so obsessed with sending the same message...
